It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If blame and criticism are a prevalent communication style and this doesn\u2019t change, relationship failure can be predicted with over 90% accuracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of the spoken word: 7% in words, 38% in the way the words were said, 55% facial expression.<\/p>\n<p>I think this person:<br \/>\n&#8211; Is a problem<br \/>\n&#8211; Has a problem<br \/>\n&#8211; Is on a learning journey and is capable, resourceful and full of potential<\/p>\n<p><strong>Intentionality<\/strong> &#8211; set a clear intention for a meeting. 2 min before a meeting: \u201cif the meeting would wildly exceed your expectations, what would happen?\u201d No limits!<\/p>\n<p>Questions for building a great team:<br \/>\n&#8211; What would the dream or success look for us working together?<br \/>\n&#8211; What would the worst case look like<br \/>\n&#8211; What\u2019s the best way for us to achieve success or dream<br \/>\n&#8211; What do we need to be mindful of to avoid the worst case<br \/>\n&#8211; What permissions each of us wants from each other<br \/>\n&#8211; What will we do when things get hard?<\/p>\n<p>Open questions:<br \/>\n&#8211; What do you want to achieve<br \/>\n&#8211; What\u2019s happening at the moment<br \/>\n&#8211; How would you like it to be<br \/>\n&#8211; What\u2019s stopping you<br \/>\n&#8211; What\u2019s helping you<br \/>\n&#8211; What problems might there be<br \/>\n&#8211; What can you do<br \/>\n&#8211; Who can help you<br \/>\n&#8211; Where can you find out more<br \/>\n&#8211; What will you do<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t ask WHY question => ask &#8220;what were the reasons&#8221; instead<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t ask HOW question => ask &#8220;what are the steps&#8221; instead<\/p>\n<p>Top 10 questions in coaching:<br \/>\n&#8211; If I wasn\u2019t here what would you do<br \/>\n&#8211; If you knew the answer, what would it be<br \/>\n&#8211; What if there were no limits<br \/>\n&#8211; What advice would you give to your friend in the same situation<br \/>\n&#8211; Imagine having a dialog with the wisest person you know; what would they tell you to do<br \/>\n&#8211; What else?<br \/>\n&#8211; What would you like to explore next<br \/>\n&#8211; I don\u2019t know where to go next, where would you like to go<br \/>\n&#8211; What is the real issue<br \/>\n&#8211; What is your commitment on a scale from 1 to 10 to doing it. What can you do in doing it<\/p>\n<p>1on1s:<br \/>\n&#8211; Goal setting for the sessions (both long and short-term)<br \/>\n&#8211; What do you want?<br \/>\n&#8211; Reality check to explore the current situation<br \/>\n&#8211; Where are you now?<br \/>\n&#8211; Options and alternative strategies<br \/>\n&#8211; What could you do?<br \/>\n&#8211; Will &#8211; What is to be done, when, by whom, and a will to do it<br \/>\n&#8211; What will you do?<\/p>\n<p>SMART, PURE and CLEAR goals<\/p>\n<p><strong>Having a big dream brings as much work as a small dream.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To set up accountability:<br \/>\n&#8211; What will you do<br \/>\n&#8211; When<br \/>\n&#8211; How will I know<\/p>\n<p>70 learning through experience on the job<br \/>\n20 learning from other people<br \/>\n10 formal learning<\/p>\n<p>Feedback framework:<br \/>\n&#8211; What happened<br \/>\n&#8211; What have you learned<br \/>\n&#8211; How to use this knowledge in the future<\/p>\n<p>Discussion may be facilitated by the team leader but what happens should be decided by team members.<\/p>\n<p>Bonding opportunity by doing something together.<\/p>\n<p>Our true values reside within us and at the deepest level, those values are universal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are my notes from the book Coaching for performance by Sir John Whitmore.
