{"id":2503,"date":"2016-01-18T07:46:46","date_gmt":"2016-01-18T07:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nikola-breznjak.com\/blog\/?p=2503"},"modified":"2016-01-18T07:51:08","modified_gmt":"2016-01-18T07:51:08","slug":"night-school-richard-wiesman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nikola-breznjak.com\/blog\/books\/night-school-richard-wiesman\/","title":{"rendered":"Night School: Wake up to the power of sleep &#8211; Richard Wiesman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My notes from the great book <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/1ZvgCf5\">Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear<\/a>\u00a0by Richard Wiesman, which will definitely banish some false presumptions that we may have:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hypnic_jerk\">Hypnagogic myoclonic twitch<\/a> -70% of people experience it<\/p>\n<p>Deep sleep \u2013 you won&#8217;t wake up unless you smell burning \u2013 someone says your name, or you hear a very loud noise<\/p>\n<p>We spend 50% in the light sleep, 20% in deep sleep, 25% in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rapid_eye_movement_sleep\">REM<\/a>, 5% in brief awakenings<\/p>\n<p>Humans have internal clock inside them<\/p>\n<p><strong>The king sleeps on his back, the sage on his side and the rich man on his belly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Create your own bat cave<\/p>\n<p><strong>The main problem with common sense is that it is not so common.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For night terrors and sleepwalking wake the child up 20 minutes before the episodes usually start. Give them a glass of water and read them a bedtime story. Repeating this 10 days in a row reduces night terrors by two thirds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Power napping FTW!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you wake up <a>at <span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_953736415\"><span class=\"aQJ\">6 AM<\/span><\/span><\/a> then the perfect naptime is <a><span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_953736416\"><span class=\"aQJ\">1:30 PM<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Drink caffeinated\u00a0drink just before dozing off.
